The Life and Times of Mitchell Baldwin: Fugue & Variations
The combined recollections and retellings of a student, musician, and Sinfonian-in-training at the University of Oklahoma.
"This is it to be a man of the highest type. To be and not seem; to do and not simply to talk; to have the right ideal, the true motive and patiently to transform conduct in accordance with it..." - Ossian Everett Mills

Valentine's Day? Monday.
Yeah,
Never really bought into the whole Valentine's Day bit. While it's nice to have a certain day set aside when you and your significant other can pour your love out continuously, and be as lovey-dovey as you want, It's whatever to a guy like me.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all for free love, and I think it's just the cutest thing ever to see couples walking around campus, fingers locked in devotional appreciation. But, something that women never take into account is how expensive this time of year is for guys. Men stress out around Valentine's time... I don't even have a girlfriend and I've been tense all day. It's a culmination of the stereotypical need to purchase lavish gifts, and all around pamper your girl so that maybe she'll put up with you for just one more year.
Maybe that's why I don't have a girlfriend....
1. I'm poor.
2. I'm occasionally cheap.
3. I go for simple versus complicated (which, women will swear up and down all day long that they "Don't want much", but let's be realistic here. Please)
4. I am simply not a social partner. <-- That one takes the cake, ladies and gentlemen.
I'm not one, or at least haven't been, to get out and go do stuff with people. I'm pretty much perfectly content to stay in my dorm all day, err'day doing absolutely nothing. But - I also like to believe that college is helping me take serious steps toward breaking out of my anti-sociability shell, and blossom into a beautiful, social butterfly.
At the very least, the first step to recovery is acceptance right?
No, no, my enlightened readers... Mitchell Dylan Anthony Baldwin celebrates Valentine's Day with a different kind of mistress. And she can sometimes be a total... Yeah... But most of the time she's alright.
Music! And this song in particular that I absolutely cannot stop listening to.
It's an oldie by Mr. Billy Ward & His Dominoes, a magical tune first debuted by the group in 1957. It's called Stardust. Dig it, you hipsters!

The Winds of Change
Yes sir,
Another month, another blog update. I know - that's a crappy way of doing things, but when I tell myself "Mitch, you're gonna blog about this awesome life you live and these awesome people who are in it and all these awesome things you experience." I get totes pumped for memoir-excellence. However, when I get down to it the whole project just gets shoved into the back of my mind like some leprous, half-done piece of junk until I decide to pick it back up again. Hopefully though I can find the time to begin updating regularly, and many even do a little philosophisizin' along the way!
What's been going on? Well, I'm a Probationary Member of the Mu Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity, and so far it has been the COOLEST experience ever. Never saw myself becoming a frat-boy, but this is only halfway doing it... Sperry's and/or polos won't be apart of my wardrobe until they serve a professional use, but until that time - hell to the no.
The whole process of joining a fraternity is time-consuming, but I feel like I'm handling it pretty well thus far. My pledge brothers elected me Vice President of our Probationary Class and I can only...
(Continued at 11:28 AM the following day) hope that I'm fulfilling my duties as best I can? Yeah, totally lost my train of thought from last night. In the midst of writing this blog post I went to this coffee place in OKC with Robert and Susan called Cuppies an Joe. Cute little place! They had cupcakes and coffee. Afterward I went Robert's place and got my first official fraternity interview from Sam Briggs. Man, it was a really interesting conversation. We talked for around 2 1/2 to 3 hours, and it was a blast. My schedule for today is pretty chill. I only have symphony band at 2:30, then I'll probably do some studying later. Maybe try for another interview tonight.
Anyway, I don't even know where I'm going with this, so I'm gonna cut it off here.
Chances are I'll remember everything I was going to say in a few minutes.

Old semester, new tricks.
Oh, hello there blog... I didn't realize the amount of dust and overall decay you were starting to collect. I guess I should start updating you more huh? Man - I sure hope I can take care of a dog or a classroom full of highschool kids better than I have you. Here's to better times, eh blog?
Oh, hello there, baffled readers. I was just having a conversation with my good ol' blog. I'm surprised he's still alive honestly... Just kidding, this electronic journal has absolutely no personified traits about it, and I'm not crazy - honest.
Anyway, it's a new semester! I feel like I'm starting it off right, too. I met some pretty cool bros last night, and we hung out for a while. Austin, Tom, and GingerGabe. Good times. I'm actually taking Gen-eds this semester! I never thought it possible. Hopefully Communications and Psychology totally don't kick me in the face, but luckily I don't have to start my day until 9 AM this semester... Sorta.
I still play World of Warcraft. Is that a bad thing? But I haven't in a few days/weeks. No, no, no MINECRAFT is where it's at. I've even started a video series for this game on Youtube... It's pretty chill.
What else... Classes start tomorrow, and then a week from tomorrow is the Phi Mu Alpha Formal Dinner!!! OHMYGOD I'M SO EXCITED! Joining a frat, joining a frat, joining a frat. And I couldn't ask for a better potential-pledge class, or potential-brothers, or potential-big *cough cough*. Yes, it's definitely going to be an exciting start to an exciting second half of the year, and I'm totally unsure of where it could go!
I do know that no matter what, I'm going to be slaving in a factory this summer to pay for next year however... Yay. -.-

My, my, my!
It's certainly been awhile since I've updated this thing.
This'll have to be a quick post though. Game Day rehearsal in 30 minutes over at Everest! Today we're going to beat Colorado. End of story.
I'll post again later, promise! BOOOOOMER.

Success is matched by failure, blah blah blah...
Hello,
Well, another day gone, another wealth of knowledge absorbed at college. Had a pretty good day until I learned that being a freshman in band sucks. I haven't experienced failure in such a long time that I've hit that depression point where I have to realize people are better than me. Or something like that...
Basically, I got last chair in the last band. Which really sucks. Now, I know what you're thinking; "Man, he must've had a horrid audition..." Well, stand corrected, because my audition was fine, better than I expected even. So I've come to the conclusion that it's all based on stupid seniority and politics and all that crap. Oh well. I've never played such a low part before, so maybe this can be viewed as a learning experience. I'll try not to be bitter, even though I know that the results of some of the higher players are totally not deserving of their talent. I'm a freshman, though. I know I where I stand on the totem pole, however (pulling a bit of a Kanye move here), my section leader and good friend did not deserve the position she received. She deserved way better. And it's just crap.
Anyway, on a slightly more positive note, had round two of my Intro to Music Ed. class today, and it is seriously the greatest learning experience I've ever gone through in the history of forever. I guess that's for now, and I apologize for my little rant there.
Tomorrow consists of more classes, no marching rehearsal though! I get to get all spiffed up in my Pride uniform, and go take pictures, then we get to do a philanthropy thing for ALS disease (I think so, at least). Pretty pumped about that!
I'll be home this weekend!

Pool shark, yay-yuh!
Whoo!
Had a great day today. Second day of classes, not too bad.
Yesterday consisted of Aural Skills (singing) or Music Theory, I don't which because they're taught by the same teacher. No matter! Then was English, which I was slightly late to. The class was located within the College of Business, so I was totally out of my element. After that, I had Introduction to Astronomy... Ohmygod, what an amazing class. The concepts that are going to be covered in that class are... ASTRONOMICAL! Ahem. Annnnyyyywho, After that was Piano. Which was pretty cool, and I even found a place where I can practice my piano skizzles regularly. Those are all Monday, Wednesday, and Friday's classes. Today (Tuesday for you oldfolks) and Thursday consists of either/or Music Theory or Aural Skills. I still don't know yet. Then my Discussion group for Astronomy (which only meets on Tuesdays), and then (quite possibly my favorite class) Introduction to Music Education. This class is simply to much fun, and interesting, and awesome to put into words. It's amazing. Now, after that, and I believe it's only on Thursday's, is my Recital Attendance course. I know this Thursday, however, I have a convocation to go to (whatever the hell that is)...
Of course - Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday is Pride Rehearsal. Shoot me.
But, wait! That means I have Tuesday evenings to myself, right!? Wrong. Tuesday is Trombone Choir.
All in all, though, I'm very satisfied with my schedule.
Today, after Bone Choir, I went across the street to the Reynolds Performing Arts Center to practice for a little while. Today was in preparation for my concert ensemble audition for tomorrow! After that, Duncan and I went a free-ice cream thing and played some pool, of which I won my VERY FIRST GAME! Oh yeah.
Anyway, tomorrow is just like Monday, so it looks I've got a routine to get down!
